Mass-Casualty Incident (MCI) drills usually focus on vests and tarps, assignments and responsibilities but always seem to miss the most important part of an MCI: The first-in unit. This presentation will prepare you to collect important information when arriving on-scene, transmit a good radio report and begin to set up casualty collection and deploy a triage team. For decades, the EMS community has tried to learn from MCI incidents but continue to push outdated concepts that have never worked, like tarps and dismissing walking wounded. These concepts have new, simple solutions that can be deployed by a first in-engine, first-arriving ambulance and even a volunteer arriving in their POV. All you need is your eyes, a radio and know what to look for.
