SUMMARY:Veteran's Day
DESCRIPTION:\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nVeterans Day is a U.S. federal holid
ay on November 11th that honors all who have served in the United States A
rmed Forces. It originated as Armistice Day to commemorate the end of Wor
ld War I\, but was renamed in 1954 to recognize all veterans from all U.S.
wars. The holiday celebrates living veterans and their contributions\, p
atriotism\, and sacrifices. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nOrigin as Armistice Day
: \nThe holiday began as Armistice Day to mark the end of World War I\, w
hen fighting ceased on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in
1918. The first Armistice Day was observed in 1919. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\nTransition to Veterans Day: \nIn 1954\, at the urging of veteran
s' organizations\, the holiday was renamed Veterans Day to honor American
veterans of all wars and conflicts. It became an official federal holiday
to thank living veterans for their service. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n
\nDistinction from Memorial Day: \nVeterans Day is different from Memori
al Day. While Memorial Day honors those who died in service\, Veterans Da
y is a day to thank all who have served\, both living and deceased\, with
a particular focus on those who are still living. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \
n\n\n\nHow it is celebrated: \nCommunities celebrate by holding parades\,
ceremonies\, and moments of silence\, such as the one at 11 a.m. at the T
omb of the Unknown Soldier. Other ways to celebrate include flying the fl
ag or displaying yellow ribbons\, and many people thank veterans directly
 for their service. \n\n\n\n\n
