Florida EMS for Children (EMSC) is a nationally funded grant program working to improve health care for children in the field. It is our goal to ensure that pediatric patients receive the best care possible in the prehospital setting. Often viewed as “little adults,” children have very different medical needs.

Module 1: The Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator

After completing this module, you will be able to identify best practices for pediatric readiness and improve your knowledge on the role of a PECC (pediatric emergency care coordinator). (14 minutes).

Module 2: The Role of the Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator and Pediatric Readiness

After completing this module, you will be able to identify the pivotal role of the PECC in assessing Pediatric Readiness, as well as data and research around the impact of PECCs. (10 minutes).

Module 3: PECC Models and Best Practices

After completing this module, you will be able to describe PECC models and best practices. (8 minutes).

Module 4: Pediatric Patient & Medication Safety

Learn about the importance of patient and medication safety in your ED and how it supports quality pediatric care (10 minutes).

Module 5: Equipment, Supplies, and Medications

Learn about the importance of having pediatric equipment, supplies, and medications readily available, accessible, clearly labeled, and logically organized in the emergency department (10 minutes).

Module 6: Policies, Procedures, and Protocols

Learn about the importance of pediatric ED policies, procedures, and protocols in delivering quality care, reducing errors, enhancing accountability, and preparing staff for emergencies (15 minutes).

This module highlights the vital role of pediatric-specific radiology and laboratory services in supporting ED Pediatric Readiness (10 minutes).

Module 9: Quality and Process Improvement

Explore how QI and Process Improvement work together to strengthen Pediatric Readiness and how to apply them in your ED using pediatric-focused quality metrics. (15 minutes)
